The modeling and prediction of material failure has been a long-standing goal of materials science with applications spanning the reliability of structural elements from bridges, buildings, and vehicles to the latest biomaterials and nanomaterials. The multiphysics or multiscale natures bring the computational challenges in robustness, fidelity and efficiency.

In this minisymposium, we will review a number of new ideas for developing efficient and reliable coupling methods and algorithms, and share interesting applications in various engineering and science fields.
