Identification via Time Reversal: Recent Advances

ABSTRACT

Source identification and scatterer (or obstacle) identification are two classes of inverse wave problems which have important practical applications in various fields, such as acoustics, geophysics and non-destructive testing of structures. In this talk, three types of computational methods will be discussed for the solution of such problems: Adjoint variational formulations, Arrival-Time Imaging (ATI) and Time Reversal (TR). Then the talk will focus on recent advances in developing effective TR methods for source and scatterer identification, including their efficient combination with ATI, an Augmented TR scheme which extracts more information from the given data, and a comparison of TR and adjoint schemes.
